23.5 Compass location

What is the best location for a compass on a Hunter 23.5. I'm replacing one that was bracket mouted in the center of the cockpit next to the main sheet block . . .the old one had apparently met with too many feet . . .Is there a better visable yet protected spot to mount the thing?

On the bulkhead

Steve, I installed an Aquameter bulkhead mounted compass in the aft cabin bulkhead, to the left of the companionway. It requierd a hols to be cut with a 4 inch hole saw. I ran the wires up to the light above the galley for the compass lighting. A small plastic instrument cover was installed over the back of the compass to make it pretty. It was clearly visible on both tacks and did not get in the way. Mike Pajewski H23.5 "Summer Rental" H26 "Loon"
