Hello,
I am in the middle of changing the up haul line on a 23.5 I recently purchased. The unit came out as expected, appears to be original, and seemed to go back in properly. The problem is I can't get the board to swing up as designed. I replaced the line with 7/8 sta-set. I also replaced both stainless pins and the sheave in the centerboard bracket. I used the 2 to 1 purchase and the deck winch and stopped cranking when one of the pulleys exploded.
I need help. What am I missing?

Thank you

Did you pull the centerboard housing out or from the boat. Were there 2 or three holes on the side of the housing? If so, did you use the correct holes for the pins? How many helped you? Could the new line have been caught when inserting the bracket into the housing.
Did you apply duck tape over the pins holes to keep the.
Pins Fromm coming out ?

look under boat information for hunter sailboats. Then pick the hunter 260 and go to downloads. There you will find the information on how to replace the centerboard line applicable to replacing that line. Please respond back. As a former Hunter dealer, I replaced many of those lines

Thank you for responding so quickly. I reviewed the download instructions before starting. I built a cradle for the board to rest in and used an air powered jack to do the work myself. There are only two holes in the bracket. I used the threaded rod to guide the unit in and duct tape to hold the pins in place. The whole bracket fit well into the grooves inside the centerboard trunk. The new line was not pinched. When it wouldn't lift via the lines I was able to push it up with my hand and it just lowered down on its own. I removed the deck plate and the sheave under it was intact and not worn.
The second time I lowered it I used the threaded rod and a nut to drop it about 6 inches. I then removed the board from the bracket at the pin and lowered it another 3 inches with the jack so I could inspect inside the trunk. Everything seems in order, no pinching. I reinstalled everything a second time and had the same problem.
I am at a loss.

Could it be possible that your lifting line is simply too thick? If I’m reading properly, 7/8” line won’t work on my pulleys on our 240. I ordered 10mm line. Just over 3/8”.

Thank you, that was my misprint. I went with 7/16 sta-set. The rope moves an gets tight but just won't lift the board off the ground.

Thanks Dave, I'm having issues replacing the centerboard lifting line on a Hunter 23.5. I installed 7/16 sta-set and used an air jack to lift the board and bracket into place. There is a channel inside the centerboard trunk, with grooves for the pins, that the bracket slides right into. I used the two pulley lift system and the winch with a handle. The board lifts off the ground a few inches and then just stops.i can push the board all the way up with my hand and it slowly drops down. the rope will not get any tighter, and the board just won't lift any more.
I'm not sure if this is the way it is supposed to be or if I am missing something.

sounds like the line may be routed wrong

The routing is not intuitive I remember I almost did mine backwards, but I double checked before raising it up.

I figured the 7/8 line was it, bummer. You are going to have to post pictures. Maybe we can see something. I am currently preparing to put my centreboard back in too. I hope it goes smooth.

Spoke with owner last nights. We discussed everything and ever I could not figure it out. Suggested to remove the centerboard and start over. He will keep me abreast

Thank you Dave. You really helped me. After talking to you I made a couple of changes that, along with some of my own eyeball engineering, helped me to succeed.
The details of where I added to/ modified the tutorial are as follows:
- I built a cradle for the board out of an old 2x4 and a scrap of carpeting.
- I used the 1 ft 3/4 threaded rod and a nut to suspend the stainless bracket half way in, with the roller pin taped in place.
- I laid the new rope on the groove in the head of the board and used a piece of duct tape to hold it in position so that it couldn't flop to the side and get pinched. I used a large enough piece of tape that I could grab and remove it once the board was in place.
- I used an air jack to lift the board into place in order to insert the pivot pin. I taped it in place and then used the air jack to lift and completely seat the forward end, bracket and board. I then replaced the threaded rod with the factory bolt.
- I then used the air jack to lift the back end of the board into place and hold it there while I addressed the cascading line.
- I replaced the cascading line with another piece of 7/16 sta-set. I also replaced 1 of the 2 pulleys, which had exploded the first time I tried to lift the full weight of the board.
- When I removed the jack the board dropped about 3 inches so I lifted it back up with the jack and cranked it in another 1/2 inch. It stayed up, finally, and I rolled the trailer back under it.
Thank you all for your input and I hope that some of the details I have listed will assist someone else.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I will use your tips when I put mine back in. Hot weather stopped me last week. Maybe tomorrow.
Thanks again.
