23.5 Boom Position

The boom on my recently purchased 23.5 is not parallel to the deck or perpendicular to the mast when reefed or with full sail. It is about 4 inches low on the aft end of being level when the tension on the topping lift is relieved to a slack line. When the topping lift line is slack, the sail shape is at it's best.

Am I doing something wrong or is this common with the 23.5? Other than this issue, she handles great.:dance:

Yep, you're looking at it from the wrong prospective.
Whether the boom is perpendicular or not to the mast is pretty much irrelevant.
Have your sailmaker take a look at the main to see if it is in good shape. All your sail trim control lines are there to put the proper shape into the sail for the conditions you are sailing in at that moment. Of course as conditions change so should your sail shape.
I would HIGHLY recommend you buy Don Guillette's book 'Sail Trim' available on this site. It's the best $20 bucks you'll spend on your boat.

My H23 does it to. Whenever I want the sail to set well I need to release the topping lift once the main is raised. But yeah, it's not ideal the way the boom hangs so low with the topping lift undone. Can't raise my bimini top like that.
