I'm considering buying a used bimini and mounting it on my Hunter 23.5. It looks like biminis that are made for the 23.5 mount on the top of the side walls (combing?). Can anyone tell me the hight of the bimini when it is up? I am considering getting one that I could mount on the hull to topside flang joint similarly to the way the side stays are anchored (just above the rub rail). This looks like it would be easier and a stronger mounting point. Are there any problems with this? Would I need to seal the holes to make sure water doesn't get in? Thanks.

Whatever clears the boom. I raised my stock bimini a bit, used the boom for a guide.

Our bimini was installed by the commissioning dealer when the first owner purchased it new. With a full main the boom hits the bimini, we can only use ours when we have the main reefed. It's mounted on the combing in the cockpit just forward of the stern rail seats. I've been eying it for some time and thinking of trimming the struts down so we can use it without being reefed. It's all under a snow covered tarp now so no pics available, other than my avatar:naughty:

Here is Another Way to Go

A folding patio table umbrella fits in the mast crutch perfectly.

Looks a little odd but shade is shade is shade.

I put a bimini on my 23.5 just a few months ago and found it better to put it just above the rub rail. The boom does not hit the top of the bimini so I can can still sail without any adjustments.

Bimini on my 240

I made a major malfunction when I ordered my bimini in measurements. It came too high. I drilled out the rivets on the uprights both sides and taking an inch off at a time commenced to adjust the height.took off about 4 inches. Still need to take another inch or so off. This took a lot of time and patience but after spending over $400 for the unit I didn't want to screw it up more. I moved the mainsheet on the boom forward about 9 inches.
I can sail with the whole main up.
Here in the South, there is normally not a lot of wind during the heat of the day when the bimini is needed to keep the sun off of you.
