Hello, was wondering if any one has had experience sailing and then comparing a 22’ Gloucester with an O’Day 222. Both being 1984 models?
Thank you, Jerry

I have not; but comparing the specs. I would imagine they would be comparable in characteristics; since it looks like the Gloucester 22, slightly wider but shorter on the water line, is a knockoff of the O'Day 22-2. Be interesting to hear from someone who has sailed both.

@Jerrycans ,
Good morning! That's a really good question, as both boats are extremely similar in terms of design and size. However, from what I can see, there are a few differences that could possible give one boat the advantage over the other.
The Gloucester seems to be a more classic design, and has a bit of a cutter bow (not too extreme, just enough to tell). It also seems to be a little more beamy and has a deeper draft and thicker keel than the O'day.
As for the O'day 222, she seems to be a little more on the performance side, and strongly resembles faster, affordable day sailors built in the 70s - 80s (sloped transom, steep bow, etc.). The hull shape is a bit more refined, but looks like it would be faster and give a little more performance than the bulkier cruising hull of the Gloucester.
In terms of sail plan, both boats are mirror copies. I'm kind of leaning toward @rschuss 's comment of "knockoff", just with a different hull.
I hope this helps!
