222 mast support

I have an early 222 ('84 with old style hull id), and it's the only one I've seen up close. In some pictures there appears to be a support of some kind near the v-berth in the area of the mast. There is no indication in my boat that there ever was anything in that position. Is it missing in my boat? I do have some stress cracks (since filled) in the deck around the mast...would adding a support in this area help?

I also have a 1984 222(special edition).Apparently Oday was supposed to do a recall and install a support(chrome pole I think) but not all boats got that installed. If you can find a 222 with that support and get one manufactured somehow and install it yourself, it will help that situation. This is what I plan to do too....

I also have an '84 222. I just bought it last month so I don't know the whole history, but mine does have the chrome pole you speak of. Good luck resolving this.--Steve
