Hi there! I just bought a 1972 MacGregor/Venture 22...The previous owner tells me that it was listed as a 22 even though it actually has a 24ft length. Apparently Venture listed it as a 22ft model to allow it to fall into a lessor tax bracket, where it was built. Does anybody have any more info on that? And how might I go about getting some history on this little boat? I am going to have a few projects for it over the winter...The Admiral wants to take it to Bimini in the early summer...But at this point, I will be happy to pull up to "the Landings" in Jax and have lunch! :) I need to rebed the port stantion...and fix a few feet of rubrail on the starboard side...and give the interior a little going over... I would like to find some info on the rigging, but I dont know whether to refer to it as a 22 or 24... Thanks in advance... Skip

Not

I dont know....

Sounds fishy to me. Why not measure it. Hold a tape at the tip of the bow, and measure down the rub rail all the way to the back corner. (thats how they are measured, not straight down the center) After you know that dimention, we'll talk about if its a 22 or a 24. Looks like a 22 to me/. Good Luck!

24 not 22

Check the boats photos and specs on thi site and you will see that you have a 24 not a 22, I have a V222 and it doesn't look like your picture. MG

Official measuring

The official measurement of any boat is from the forward most point at the bow, to the aft most point at the stern. This excludes thing like bowsprits and ladders at the stern. It is down the center line of the boat. This is paraphrased from many state and Coast Guard regulations. Some boats will not measure exactly as identified in the model designation. I believe the V-22 is something like 21'8". My V-21 is 21 feet from the bow to the stern down the center line. Because of of geometry of the boat it will fit into a garage 21'8' long, when on the original trailer.

measurements

I ran a tape on it just now.... If I run the tape along the rubrail, I get 25ft 2in. If I run it across the top centerline, I get 24ft 8in. I will try to find some numbers on it later...There is none on the stern...I will look at the BoS later also... The only thing I found around the outside of the boat was a Venture sticker on each side aft, mostly obscoured by a coat of paint... Skip PS, there are more pictures on my website...

V22-4

Wonderful, Thanks Keith! I believe I have a V2-24...It's kind of funny that the owner so obviously loved this little boat...and believed it was a V22 the whole time he had it... Skip

Hull Number

I have a V224 and found the hull number drilled into the "stringer" under the cockpit on the starboard side.
