216 keel fix

I have a broken keel on a 2003 hunter 216 - the keel is dropped down on the trailer and appears to have pulled loose from the shackle holding the top of the keel. I've talked to Hunter about fix and they are planning on sending me a kit. Just wondered if anyone has repaired one of these and any hints. I was planning on doing fix with keel/cassette in boat.

Keel or cable broken?

If the problem is just a broken cable check the answer in the attached link or search the forum's archives for "keel broken cable" This worked for me.

Not the cable

It's not the cable - there is a shackle that is attached to the cable that goes through a hole in the top of the keel. The hole has broken through, so that the shackle and cable are free from the keel.

Keep us advised

This is the first time I've seen or heard of this happening so I think I would follow whatever Hunter recommends. I would also think that might also be an item that Hunter would want to have their dealer replace so that they could see what could have possibly caused it. Either way, good luck with it and keep us posted as to your success in getting the problem resolved and any possible ways we might keep from having the same thing happen on our 216s.
