Hi Gang! Got a problem. How does one board our new 216 in the event of an "overboard" or just after a swim or even when beached? Mate and I are seniors (super)and although in pretty good shape, need some kind of ladder. Forget the rope type. The gunwale width of about 14 in. is too much for any hook type. West Marine doesn't seem to carry anything useful. Any ideas? Thanks. Jacktar

It can be done

I would not guess the cost at this point but if it were me, I would first purchase a big ole piece of white plastic maleron and have it cut so it would contour the base of the transom which can go either side of the motor mount. It would have to extend past the lip of plastic but not past the rub rail. I would then use a ladder like you find on the larger Hunters that fold up. I would call the manufacturer of the ladder to see if they offer longer base plates for the ladder which would save alot of time. The plastic piece would need to be thru bolted with backing plates in the boat. Hope this gives you some ideas to work with.

Cheap ladder

I found boarding ladders on sale for about 10-20 bucks at K-Mart. Hook type with 4 (5?) steps. Does not fold up. Standoffs fold in but when set to the right length, fold over each other so they are not flat. Hooks were slightly too small so I bent the hooks bigger!!! Had to adjust standoffs different from each other due to the curve of the hull. Ladder seems to fit fine over the rail near the stern on the port side. Have as yet to try it...the water is still darn cold up here in Upstate Calif.

Boarding ladder

Have one custom made. We are having one that mounts on the transom and folds up. The cost is $315.00 for labor, materials and mounting. Rob Morton

Buy the cheap ladder and you will get what you pay for. Plus I have some safety concerns too. This is based on 35 years of sailing experience. I am showing my age on this
