Prospective 1st time owner. I will be sailing single handed in Galveston Bay, Texas intercoastal waterway and some in the open Gulf. I'm trying to decide between a 212 now or waiting for a 290 3 years from now when my son gets out of chiropractor college. Would like to hear comments on the handling characteristics from Hunter 212 owners. Thanks for the info...

I know some dealers on the left coast make some very attractive incentive deals for a known trade up. Check out the deal your guy will offer. Might have some very inexpensive sailing until enrollment. RD

I share your concerns about buying used automobiles. I have had good success with purchasing used sailboats (most recently a Hunter 23). The difference, it seems, is the relative mechanical simplicity of a sailboat. There are very good boats in the range of 3-5(or more)years old that perform essentially like new but for significantly less money.
