We are excited to take delivery of our new (e)33. We were hoping to launch her before the May long weekend. Unfortunately, the delivery has been delayed due to the receivership issues with Hunter's parent company. So, we are patiently waiting and hopefully she'll arrive sometime the later this month.

As first time new boat owners, we could use some your feedback or input about what to expect in the weeks leading up to the delivery and the weeks afterwards.

What to expect in the weeks leading up to delivery? Loss of sleep, unable to concentrate and focus, from anxiety related to excitement and anticipation...... ;)

After delivery there will be commisioning and then warranty issues. Best advise would be communication with dealer and have patience. Remember this is their busiest time of year, everyone else are also anxious to get their boats ready and work done. Talk to the dealer and ask lots of questions and what they anticipate time-line to get yours ready. Take pictures and notes on issues that arise later and stay in communication.

Oh, and enjoy the time..... it is a boat.... it's meant for fun. :D

I was on the e33 at the Toronto Boat Show for a couple of days as an ambassador. I really like several of the changes they've made vs. my 2005. One was the main sheet lead to the helm and the other is that huge swim platform. Main sheet would be very handy and I could really see sitting on that swim platform every weekend enjoying a cold beverage while anchored out.

A few of my thoughts.....

One thing you should check are all the hose clamps. Really. Things happen, or don't, in final factory completions that do not get caught by dealers.

Congratulations on your new boat, enjoy.

Thanks Scott, I think we met you and your wife at the show. Spent quite a bit of time talking to your wife. The advise is appreciated.

Our expereince from last year

We took delivery of a 33 last year and had a few issues:
1. Boat was delivered without cushions - they got lost on the way from Alachua to Racine, eventually they made it - but Hunter neglected to sew on all of the velcro strips needed to hold them in position.
2. Hunter does not install shaft zincs - my dealer didn't install any either.
3. We ordered the spinnaker handling gear and all of the required block parts didn't make the delivery and had to be sent out after delivery.
4. Last issue was a stuffing box nut that worked loose on the trip home.

Overall, it wasn't as bad as it sounds. The key is to be involved and follow up and ask questions - lots of them. The dealer let us start reading through the owner's literature ahead of time.

Plan on spending some money on the little stuff to make the boat comfy and home like. Fortunately, we were also getting rid of a camper, so some of that stuff moved aboard.

It's an exciting time - enjoy it!

Congrats! I took delivery of my e33 a whiles back.

As the others said, there will be warranty issues so don't go crazy when things start breaking in. Commissioning may also take some time because of the current season so try to have as much patience as you can.

Not sure how you rigged and optioned yours but I did have a few things I would change around if I had the chance. That's what first boats are for.

This was my first boat as well so I was in your shoes not too long ago; hang in there it's worth the wait.

We just took delivery of our 33 on Tuesday. We brought the boat from the dealer’s on Granville Island (Vancouver) to Maple Bay (Vancouver Island) on Wednesday. Took the next day to load up a few items and Friday went off to a Hunter rendezvous at Thetis Island. The largest in North America. All in all we have been very, very busy but please with the boat. There will definitely be issues of misunderstandings, warranty stuff, etc, but have patience, Serena1. I know you will be more than pleased with the boat.
GreggL what would you have done differently in fitting out your boat?

Hello Below and GreggL, what are your hull numbers? Mine will be 137 from what I heard.

Serena1, I believe my number is 112.

HelloBelow, in regard to changing some things around here's just a few of the points. Some are additions I can make now while others I probably will just have to deal with.

-dodger; it's quite necessary.
-electric head; the manual one I got is a bit of a pain.
-upgraded gps and radar, I went with the factory chart plotter which is ray marine a50 I believe. The e series with radar seems to be the better choice.
-electric windlass, didn't get one but now thinking I should've.
-the hatch boards were annoying too so I upgraded to a door set from zarcor. Great so far.

I'm sure more will be added to this list. But overall very pleased with the new model. Get things wrong on your first boat so you know what you like on the rest. At least that's what I was told.

Thanks GreggL,

We did get a dodger as part of the boat show package, if nothing else it means we don't have to keep closing the companionway hatch in the rain. It does add to windage though. The dealer pressed us to install a Bimini; but, at an additional many $ so we opted not to and will have to suffer the few days of full sun that we get here on the west coast. For rain, a hat will do for now. I agree that the manual head is a pain, always is. We thought we would live with the manual head and gravity drain holding tank system to see how it works before getting fancy. Heads have a limited life, so maybe on the list for near future projects.

Interesting that our 33 came with a C90W w/GPS. We had them install a scanner (RD418D) and an AIS (Rx Only). We had both on our last boat. The latter was the best couple of hundred bucks we every spent on a boat. Oodles of large traffic vessels where we cruise. I just hope that recreational boats stay away from transmitting as it would complete overwhelm the chartplotter display. We did get an electric windlass as we also upgraded to a 35lb Manson anchor. Thought I would be kind to my back. The dealer recommended an Espar hydronic heater vice the Wabasto air that came with it. I caved in at some fair expense and will have to wait to see if that was a good decision or not. Research from Google gives a draw on value for the buck.

And yes those 3 hatch boards are a pain; but. it is my understanding that the Zarcor doors have to be removed and stored anyway when you sail. What is your experience with that?

My hull number is HUN33123K112. I think that means the 23rd hull as I have read that Hunter starts at 101. Again that is debated on previous Hunter forum posts. I believe the last 3 digits mean manufactured in January 2012. I have no idea what the "K" designates.

The chartplotter is an optional extra, so would have been whatever the dealer was ordering on that boat if brought in for stock or if you ordered the boat yourself, would have been your choice.

No updates on the delivery of our H33 yet.

As for our upgrades....we received the comfort package (cushions and shades) as part of the Spring special and of course the "always included" Mariners package.

We have added a Dodger and Bimini to be manufactured and installed by a local "Island Canvas" Great quality in my opinion.

The teak options. (nice incentive from the dealer)

Autopilot

Freezer

We wanted an electric windlass....but the budget didn't allow for it.

Chartplotter. I didn't like what Hunter currently had to offer, so I decided to purchase a Raymarine e7 and will stall it myself.

Things I would like to have: folding prop, battened main.

We declined on the various entertainment options, as I belive they were a bit over priced. We can purchase those at a later date. But mainly because we plan to be sailing, not watching tv.

Thanks for the info on the hull number, we have hull number (10)8 manufactured in August last year, she is a twin keel and is based in the Solent, UK.

We have had a number of annoying problems, including a start button which resulted in solenoid burning out. But most annoying is the fresh water system which has leaked from day one. It seems every pipe joint has leaked, we have now got this down to a slow leak and hopefully this will be fixed soon.

One design I dont like is the water channel alongside hatch cover which runs rain water into the rope storage "pouch"

I had the same starter issue. Smoked like hell, had to replace the whole thing under warranty. Engine control panel as well.

2012 Hunter 33 Issues

To all New 2012 Hunter 33 (a.k.a. e33) boat owners.

Given that this model is a major redesign from the H33, I think it would be a good idea to document any issue that we have with our boats, on this forum. The intent is not to make us paranoid, but to bring to light those items that may be corrected while still under warranty.
