I wanted to let everyone know about an event this February at Lake Havasu Az. This event is known as the "Lake Havasu Pocket Cruiser Convention" and what started as a group of "trailer-sailors" just getting together in the middle of winter has grown in three years to a gigantic gathering of trailer-sailors from around the country. Last year was the third year for this event and it brought 70 boats from 9 states. The City of Lake Havasu has gotten behind this event and is helping to promote it hoping to draw over 100 boats this coming February. The dates for the event is February 14-21, 2011. I have attached a link to the current web site for the 2011 event, and it includes a nice 10 minute video by the guy,(Sean Mulligan) who started this event and has worked so hard to help build it. I believe this event would be a natural for trailer-sailor folks. Please take some time to watch the video and looking at the link.

Sean has arranged for a fantastic rate at the London Bridge Resort,($104. per night which includes a slip!), for this event, but rooms are limited, and going fast. What better way to spend a week in February that to sail in the warmth of Lake Havasu, AZ!

We are thinking of going with our 1988 26D from Lancaster, CA. Looks like I can clear the bridge but drag the antenna. Knowing the LB Resort is full and the back-up slips are iffy, what about mast up overnight parking?

There are plenty of slips available at the Lake Havasu Marina,(100+)....just go to the web site and get with Sean. Don't sit on the fence, 71 boats now signed up to attend! Lake Havasu doesn't allow any sleeping onboard at any marina. But there are plenty of coves that spending the night is allowed. But, you don't have to go that route, like I said, plenty of slips available.

Hope to see you there,

Don

Good discount rate at the Marina for the event. Don, for some reason I thought you could spend the night at the marina - just no showers, probably no power??? I could be completely wrong but I thought I saw that somewhere. As it says on the web site, if you leave your boat at the marina, you have a huge choice of places to stay (if you miss out on a room where the main event people are staying) without driving much at all.

Ill be there if Im not traveling..

This is a picture of the marina taken this spring from a kayak..

They don't allow folks to spend the night on their boat at any marina on the lake. This is probably due to the numbers of boats during the summer. You can stay on the hook at any of the many coves on the lake. The response has been unbelievable! This is building to one of the largest trailer sailboat events in the country!

Hey Guys....Sean here from the Havasu Pocket Cruisers Convention
Don was right in that some of the marinas down south on Lake Havasu dont allow overnighting in the boat...but Lake Havasu Marina DOES allow overnighting. Also, I still have rooms available at both resorts and there is NO shortage of slips at the marina. Come on down. We are going to have a great time. Check out the news just posted that Robert Crawford, skipper of "Black Feathers" the Cal 20 that was the smallest boat to ever finish the Trans Pac to Hawaii, will be attending and presenting two seminars!

Sure hope you all will come Join us. Email me with any questions you may have!

HEY!! I live in Boulder City, NV. I'm a couple of hours drive from Havasu. I own a 1976 V25. My first mate, Penny, passed in April 09 and so I don't have a crew anymore. I'd like to possibly attend the event maybe for a day. Could anyone use a deck ape? I'll bring the rum.;) Fair winds...
P.S. The weather in February should be great. The water temp however will be around a comfortable 60f. That's why you need the rum.

Old Salt.....Come on down and spend some time at Lake Havasu. There is always room onboard. Just look me up when you get there. Besides the sailing, there are some fantastic seminars and speakers planned. Check the web site's schedule. You'll not want to miss the Boat Show and boat parade down the London bridge channel.

Don't wait to make a room reservation, they're filling fast. Also let Sean,(the organizer) know when you've made your reservations. Hope to see you there!

Sorry to hear about your First Mate.....

Don
