I recently bought a 2006 Hunter 36 and having some serious galvanic corrosion issues. I put a new prop on the boat and it already has significant damage. The boat is moored on the West Coast of Florida. A certified marine electrician has not been able to identify the source of the problem yet. Looking for insight from other Hunter owners.
Thx

Can you supply a copy of the hull potential measurements your certified electrician obtained?
What is the condition of the zinc anode(s) fastened to the shaft and/or the propeller?

For the time being rig a wire and zinc 'guppy'. The wire fastens well and solid to the shaft - the guppy goes in the water. (Don't forget to detach before using.)

Thx Charles. I did put a Guppy in the water and it does work. I think the zinc anodes were not installed properly on the shaft. They don't have much wear on them.

Propellers range from relatively expensive to excessively expensive so potential measurements are worth the effort and easy to perform too.

To clinch a diagnosis - obtain hull potential assessment results. Culprit might be a DC (maverick) current problem and is not galvanic at all.

No guesswork necessary.
