The windlass on my 2004 Hunter 33 has failed me for the last time. It is the Anchorman Sprint 900 (pn 0043621108) aka Sprint Atlantic 'A'. I have two issues:

1. I have removed the four nuts on the interior (V berth) and removed the deck hardware down to the circlip. I expected the lower gearbox and motor to drop out at that point. I have some movement but it will not come off. I am missing something. Any suggestions?

2. I heard that the Lewmar V1-3 series has the same mounting hole pattern. Anybody replace theirs with this series? What did you replace it with?

What may have happened is water gets down past the wiper seal and so the shaft is frozen to the bearing, this what I was told by a windlass repair but on my 07 H-36 over the years I would lift the top part and than lift it just so get grease down into the bearing and I did this every year so I had plenty of lub and had no siezing and when I did take the windlass out to replace the seal and bearing it was easy for me.
Maybe spray some WD-40 to loosen it up but the repair guy that most times after a few years with water getting in it it is a big problem with the shaft and bearing freezing to each other.
What is the windlass problem,Also my manual said that there is a clip on that bootm shaft but I did not have any such clip so check if you may have one.

I have had three different failures over the past few years.

1. Shaft, gearox, motor alignment - My guess is this is due mostly to poor installation on Hunter's part. I was able to align them well enough to relieve the binding and get it working again. Occasionaly I have to go back and adjust things until it works again. Mostly a guessing game until I can get the gearbox and motor off and see the shaft angle.

2. Seal failure resulting in seawater penetrating down into the gearbox. The bearings have likely become coroded but I will not know for sure until I get the thing out and apart on my bench.

3. No response from the motor. Verified all electricals are working (proper voltage to windlass motor). I would expect that even with a mis-algned shaft or frozen bearings the motor would al least try but I get nothing. Likely the brushes have worn out completely. From reviews of other threads it seems the best solution is to replace the motor with one that has replacable brushes. $$$

Well on mine the permanent magnets of the motor broken to piece. Over time it wore the rotor some. Bought a new equivalent motor from SL Spar UK. Works great. www.slspares.co.uk
As for the clip, maybe its broken, that's why you couldn't find it.
