I have been looking for a Honda 9.9 to replace my current Johnson motor that died. Does anyone know if the 2001 9.9 is the same as the 2002? I've read the specs on both, and they sound the same. BUT, I've seen pictures that look different. The 2002 I've seen in brocheres and in stores has the areo dynamic cowling from cap to lower drive. But then, I've seen brocheres that show more of a squared off cap and cowling version. I have the opportunity to purchase a "new" 2001 from a dealer that has it in honda's warehouse, but can't get anyone to tell me if they are the same.

Will it make any difference? Both will push your

boat with 9.9 hp. It seems to me that if the price reflected one was a year older, even though it is still brand new and at significant savings, then that would be the way to go. The boat won't know the difference, only your wallet. Ray S/V Speedy

Check the weight

Hi I have a 2000 model Honda 9.9 and I think that at some point they introduced one that weighed a bit less...I'm thinking it was during the 2001 model year. My motor has the more squared off cowling. I've been very pleased with mine and I too had a Johnson that gave up. Hope this helps Alan Long
