I have a "New To Me" 2001 H380. The wheel was tight when I launched last week. I thought it was the brake or possibly the Autopilot but after an 8 hour process of elimination it's the rudder. Disconnect the rudder and the wheel is free wheeling. This rudder is composite with a composite shaft. Any thoughts ??????

More Info Needed

You said you disconnected the rudder from the steering, was the rudder free wheeling, are you able to move the rudder back and forth freely. After 8 hours of playing with the auto pilot making sure it is disengaging. You Need to do more checking and get back to us. Nick

Rudder Response

I made an assumption that if the wheel moves freely with the rudder disconnected then the rudder is the problem. I have a factory supplied, original equipment, direct connection, solid mechanical link between the base of the Edsen pedestal ( the wheel ) and the rudder post. The rudder and post are composite so I assume the bearing surfaces are something plastic like delrin and require no lubrication.
