There have been a number of threads on this forum about this BTU subject. You might do a search?

I have a Westerbeke 30b3 on my B361, and I have no complaints. Runs like a champ (so far). ;)

Our 1999 Beneteau 381 has the two factory installed AC Cruisair units. Fwd one is 12000 BTU and the main vent is in the salon and has a smaller vent in the fwd cabin. The aft unit is 7000 BTU and the main vent is in the rear cabin with a smaller vent into the main salon by the stove. With both units going, we can get to boat very cool if needed on a hot day. Reverse cycle heat in the fall and spring is very efficient and we usually only run the main unit when needed. If the boat is near you, maybe the owner can have the AC running when you view the boat or at least provide you some feedback on how well it works. A good AC unit was a critical item for the Admiral in our purchase (we are 15 mi south of Annapolis).

Our boat has the Westerbeke 42B4 and it has run very well since we purchased the boat in Jan 2010.

I have a 393 so it's only slightly larger. My boat has a similar setup as described by TAK, except that the two units are 12000 and 9000 respectively. I would think one 11000 is not enough on a hot Chesapeake day. Might also run all the time too. My system seems balanced, and does reach desired temp to give the compressors a rest.

Our 37 has one 16K unit which is adequate on the Chesapeake even on the hottest days. I'm not convinced that 11K would keep up for a similar size boat. As another data point, We had an O'Day 28 with an 8K unit - that was ok but on the hot days it would only keep the cabin around 80, and we had to spray cold water on the deck to help it out.

Thank you everyone for your comments that is what I figured maybe small. We have a hunter28.5 with a 7000 hatch unit and it is adequate at best. I think this boat we are looking at originated in Canada and that may be the reason for the smaller unit?

You should look at the 2001 381 for sale with annapolis yacht sales. It has two factory installed A/C units with two zones.
