My water tank needle is not moving , Perhaps the sender unit is faulty, the boat has not been used for some considerable time , it was reading approx half full then when I topped off the tank it has stopped? i I tried to remove the sender unit it but the screws dont come all the way out, they come up under the square section of the sender unit . I tried to ease the unit out but it appears to be firmly stuck.(is it glued?) The whole assembly tank and unit are plastic and I didnt want to damage anything ! any clues out there , is the problem likely to be the sender unit? and how do I get it out ? thanks all John

340 water tank indicator

John. I had a similar problem with mine. I own a 2001 H340. The square that you refer to actually unscrews out of the tank fitting. There's a O ring and most likely some sealant in the threads that's holding it in. My gauge failed and I bought the much-hearlded Accu-Gage unit. But after receiving it and seeing what was all involved in installation, including cutting a large hole in my panel, I called Hunter. They put me in touch with the manufacturer and I ordered a new sending unit and gauge. It's been working fine now for a year and a half. Good luck.

340 tank indicator

Frank many thanks for your info, this is a great help , did you manage to unscrew it with the cable still attached?,it looks as if the cable is potted in .I guess there is few enough turns so it does not wreck the cable. and was there any way you could test the sender unit to confirm it was u/s ? thanks John

Working on this same problem

I am having the same problem with the water tank gauge. Look on www.wemausa.com. Email them and they will instruct you how to test the sender and the gauge. It is most likeley the sender. Cut the wire and take off the sender unit. It will be caulked on. Replace the sender for $40 and make sure you get a new flange since you will wreck the old on trying to get it to screw out. Go ahead and take the screws out. It won't wreck anything. Sender should read 240-30 ohms resistance (disconnect it first). The gauge when on and the wires disconnected from the sender should read empty with the wires not touching and full with them touching together. Then it is OK. My sender read 230-30 ohms resistance so I am ordering a new one off of the web site above. When you put it back in, caulk the flange, screw it down to the tank, and screw the sender into the flange. Then connect the wires. There is an O-ring to seal the sender to the tank so I am not going to caulk the threads when I get mine put together.
