Can anyone please tell me how long the two by fours are on the 26X trailer? I need to have some cut at the lumber yard before I go to the boat next week, and want to get them in my car, but want them to fit the trailer when I get there. I think they are 4 feet long on each side of the bottom 'V' , on the two main ones, and a foot on the front one. Last time out I had a couple that need replacing but failed to measure them before I left the yacht harbor.
Thanks, Mel

For the few cuts you need how about getting them cut long and taking an old fashion crosscut hand saw and cutting them to length there?

Good luck,

I would take them long, and wouldn't have asked if I had a car with an inside longer that 4 feet. My little chev aveo has a 4 foot wide rear seat, and with the other supplies I have to take there isn't any spare room. I thought maybe someone had their trailer at home close and would know how long. I still will take a saw for the short ones in front.......thanks mel

Well when I ment long I meant maybe 5 feet and put them inside front to back then cut to the right lenght there.

I have a 26S and my rear ones are about 35 inches long and the fronts are 28, but don't know what is on the X's. They are also angle cut on the insides. I would think if you took 4 foot long pieces they would all be shorter than that,

Hey Me,

My 02X trailer looks to be about 33" in the hear and 30" in the front for the long bunks. I would think if you bought two 8'ers, had them cut 36", 36", and 24", and took your saw you should have the project done in no time.

Good Luck.

Thanks guys, for the help think I get it done from what you told me, I don't have the angle cuts, but do have 'self centering' pieces on both sides. I know it would have been nice to have measured them before I left the harbor last month. I'm down this coming Tues or Wed for the summer 'SAILSTICE' on SF Bay. Need to get it done before I put it back on tghe trailer around the 23rd. I have a couple that have rotted out pretty bad. I'm buying 'TREK' to put on them this time. I also have the plastic??? slide pieces that go on to help move it forward on the trailer instead of the 'big MacGregor' parking lot braking fest.

When I replaced my bunks in May, I used two 8-foot lengths of pressure-treated 2x4 lumber for the whole replacement. The long pieces were close to 32 inches, and the short pieces at bow and stern were less than 16 inches long.

I'd advise you to have the 2x4s cut in half (4 feet or 48 inches) - those should fit in anything bigger than a "Smart Car" - and bring a crosscut saw to cut these to exact length.

Bunk carpet is available at We$$t Marine, as are the "bunk slides" - which I'd recommend. I found a place on eBay that sells 3-inch-wide bunk slides, or actually any custom size you would like (at 13 cents per square inch) - and I wish I'd found them before I replaced the old bunks, as I wouldn't have bothered with bunk carpet.

I also needed sixteen 1/4" bolts - 2 1/2 inch long, flat head, stainless steel - to fasten the bunks in place; also a staple gun with long staples, to fasten the carpet.

And now  I'm about to replace them with carpet-less, slick bunks ...
