In my search for a used 26X, I've come across one the seller's consignor claims is a 1996 "heavy hull" model weighing 3750 lbs with a 50 HP Yamaha. I'm wondering what the story is on this model, which, at the very least, exceeds the trailer's rated capacity. I'm concerned that it is too heavy to get up on a plane with 50 HP. But the consigner won't demo it unless I make an offer with a 10% deposit and the seller accepts the offer. Without a demon, I'm not sure what to offer, if anything, on this boat.

Haven't heard of that one

Heavy Hull? What could that possibly mean -- extra glass layers? Lots of accessories? I have found that my '96 has gotten heaver -- 2 12 gal gas tanks, 16 gal wter tank. It doesn't go as fast as it used to. The Macgregor 26X goes through hull speed very gracefully. That is, there isn't a step in energy requirement just to get it up on a plane. I would think that even at 3750 lbs a 50 Hp would drive it at 12 - 15 knots.
