1995 Hunter 26 Trailer U.S. FMVSS Manufacturing Compliance Letter

Hi - my first post as a new owner of a Hunter 26.

I bought the boat and trailer in the US and am planning to import into Canada. Apparently Canada Customs will want proof that the trailer complies with FMVSS requirements (trailer plate with VIN just says meets all standards of the day, no specific reference to FMVSS). Anyone know where I could download or request a compliance letter? I made an enquiry to the Hunter website several days ago but have received no response.

That 15 year cutoff is what allows vehicles from countries other than the USA , which would otherwise being inadmissible, to be imported into Canada.

Japanese Cars for example. Heck my C22 trailer was registered as "homemade" and therefore never had a compliance certificate.

All you need is proof that the trailer is over 15 years old. A VIN would do that.

The RIV site has all the details your need.
I would also contact the US Border services, to see what they need.

When I imported a pickup, they wanted copies of paperwork showing title status, bill of sale, etc. All of which needed to be sent to the US Customs office at the port of entry we used, well in advance of us crossing over.

We then stopped at the US Customs office at the port of entry, with the originals, and they gave us a completed form. Basically saying that they allowed the vehicle to leave the country.

We then crossed the border and the Canadian border staff then wanted to see the US Customs paperwork, along with bill of sale etc.

By contacting RIV and US Customs they will have all the details you need.

If it helps, I think the original trailer for the Hunter 26 was a Magic Tilt model BG0089. I think they still manufacture that same model. (I inquired about buying one earlier this year when I was looking at an H260 that had no trailer.)

The hunter 26 trailer was made by Hunter. When the hunter 260 debuted by me it was Hunter trailer but shortly thereafter Magic Tilt in Florida supplied the trailers.
