Hunter 29.5 Portland Oregon
Hello, I am new here and just bought a 1994 hunter 29.5. All my opening portlight windows leak and I need help on finding new ones. I would like to get metal frame windows/ do not like the black plastic,...the 4 smaller ones I would like to have them none opening and the two bigger ones opening. I heard that the 1996 model has metal frames and wondering if they would fit the 1994 model. Does anybody know what I could put there and the measurements of these portlights and who sells them. Thanks any info please.

Do you know where they are leaking? Maybe you just need new gaskets

Hello, I have looked at the store but all they have is the small plastic portlights and not the bigger ones.... Plus I would like medal framed windows. My windows have broken locks and very bridle and two of the opening windows have broken windows, they need replaced. I was wanting to get metal frame portlights and was hoping someone on here has already done this project on the Hunter 29.5. The portlights that stand upright is a bad design and fill up with water because of the angle so I was thinking on getting none opening portlights for the four smaller ones and opening ones for the two bigger portlights. I was hoping someone would have the measurements so I would'nt have to take the windows out before I got the new ones. I need to know what the thickness/depth of the cabin and cut out is for all 6 portlights.

Thanks
Don

Don,

Can't help you with a source for new portlights. Perhaps a boat 'junkyard' or salvage yard.

But, FWIW, I had the same problem and probably have the same metal framed portlights you have.

I used glycerine to rejuvenate the seals. And after closing and latching them I use an Allen wrench (6mm?) to tighten the latch screws. Of course this means that the latch screws must be loosened with the Allen wrench prior to opening the latches. This solved the leaking portlight problem for me. Head and Galley are dry after rains.

I did make a half-hearted attempt at removing one portlight and gave up when the screws did not loosen easily. And since they are no longer leaking... I am not in any hurry to remove them. I think it is now an 'on the hard' job when they can be removed and the frames re-chromed.
