I'm trying to fit my 1994 Hunter 26 with a bimini. I don't have the stern rail seats and need some advice on the measurements for the bimini. Some pictures would be great if any of you have any. Thanks, Jeremy

H26 Bimini

I've never seen a H26 without stern seats. The bimini needs some sort of railing to attach to. There are two side connections (port and starboard) on the rail and two on the stern rail. I've seen power boats without railings and the bimini is attached directly to the boat. Here's some pics: Go to: http://kobernus.com/bimini/ If you need measurements let me know at george@kobernus.com

Bimini/Later Stern Rail Seats Option

Jeremy, the early 1994 H26's did not have the stern rail seats. Mine is one of these earlier ones. After sailing on a friend's later model, I coveted those stern rail seats! They are wonderful! I am looking at a simple project to add stern rail seats as described in a "Good Old Boat" article (see link below). This is not a replacement of the original stern rail, but only an addition of seats to the original stern rail. To get to my point, my H26's current bimini frame would interfere with these seats. If my bimini was attached to the toe rail's upper surface, this would allow the stern rail seat modification. I'll have to wait until I replace my current bimini to add the seats. I would advise looking into this alternate location for your bimini if you are remotely interested in stern rail seats. BrianW

I'm kicking myself

for not getting you some pictures Saturday. There is a 26 in the slip diagonally across from me and he has a bimini. He also has stern rail seats, but the front support for the bimini frame is mounted directly to the side of the boat. The rear support is mounted to the stern rail seats. I assume you could mount them both to the boat?

don't kick yourself too hard

If you get a chance, snap me some pictures of that setup. I'd really appreciate it. It sounds like that may be what I'm looking for.

stern rail seats

I was told it would cost me $600 to have some of the 260 style rails and seats put on my 26. The guy who bought my Catalina 27 installed some of the seats like you're talking about. He loves his. Thanks for the input.

H26 Bimini

It goes forward about 6 feet covering the entire cockpit when raised. You will need to add a new attachment point for your main sheet about 2 or 3 feet from the end of the boom so the bimini does not interfere with the main sheet. Let me know if you need a picture and I will take one of the bimini open. The company that I bought mine from does a lot of Hunter canvass - Ameriseam - they are very knowledgeable and can help answer questions. Check out their website and give them a call. I bought a bimini, mainsail cover and companion way poptop enclosure 9 years ago when my boat was new and they have held up well.

A Photo Would Be Great

If you get a chance to take a picture of your bimini open with the boom in at sailing height, I'd really appreciate it. I'm basically trying to get the most coverage and the most height, while still being able to have it open while under sail. Thanks for your help. Jeremy
