I'm reading from the archives and the Lewmar website that ports made pre 1996 can't use the newer style screens. True? Anyone have a source for the old style port screen? Mine has the twist style locks on the port and mounting tabs around the screen. BTW a word to the wise, don't swat at a fly sitting on the inside of the screen. Screens don't float.

Check with Defenders in CT. They have the new and improved Lewmar screens for the older style opening ports such as you described.

Jeff: The new screens are a very poor excuse for an upgrade. We have a 1994 Hunter Vision 36 that used the old all plastic units (yuk). I purchase the new ones, they work okay on the small ports, but not well on the larger ones. The have an verticle piece that has buttons on them that pop off, one of the verticle piece broke and Lewmar acted like I was crazy (they do know something) even saying that this could happen.

I am not telling or suggesting not to try one out, but I would only get one until you are sure that they work for you.

Here is an example of what they look like. Actually quite different from the original ones. If you are going to try one, then I suggest that you get it for the largest port that you are trying to cover.

Here is a link with a better close up.

Well, I guess I'm too cheap. I bought some screen material at the ACE Hardware and cut it into squares that fit under the hatches. When I feel like spending a night on the water I tape them to the ceiling, else I don't need them.
