Hello

Does anyone out there with Catalina Capri 18" know what dimensions (LxWxH) as well as power and make (Gel, etc...) the battery should be? I was told to look for 24 series size wise? I am a novice so obviously no experience. Bought a gel marine battery. It did not fit the well at the bottom of the cabin in a boat. Paid $200 but the item is unreturnable. So lost the money and still need the battery that would fit. Looking for something not more than $200. I am not planning on using much energy. Just the regular: navigation, anchor, cabin lights. And that's about it.

Thank you very much!

Sorry to hear about your plight. Your boat seems a little small. Is that a Capri 18 inch model or the 18 foot model ? Do you have a windlass as you indicate above ? How about a battery charger ?

I would suggest a lead acid battery next time if your power requirements are that small. It would be the ideal match. Might consider selling the gel battery on Craig's List to recoup your losses.

A group 24 battery is approx. 10.5 inches by 6.5 inches and 9 inches high. They vary a bit. A good deep cycle FLA will run you about $90 plus core and provide about 75 AH nominal (though remember the 50% guideline) . LiTime's mini LiFePO4 will fit in a group 24 box and give you 100AH for $350.

24 is the smallest standard size and a gel battery is nice to have. Your best bet is to figure out a bracket you can make to support it. You may have a devil of a time finding a battery that will fit.

Capri was purchased by Catalina yachts years ago. The Capri 18 later called the Catalina 18 was designed with a group 24 size battery. As suggested, measure the battery area or look for black plastic battery container with hook ups. Former Catalina dealer
