Hi Jeff, I am out cruising on my 91 35.5 right now we have had such a mild winter. There were 3 other boats moored in the anchorage last night.
The model you are looking at has the upgrades from the previous year, which include some nice stern rail seating, rectangular portholes in the salon and cabinet doors in the salon vs plexi sliders. The keel is lead and all models were shoal draft. It was originally a deep keel in the '88 and 89 models. The younger sister, the 33.5 shares the same fin/bulb combo you can read a review of this keel here.

For liveaboard life, the separate shower is great and make a fine wet closet too. It has a hand held shower with modest pressure and another handheld shower at the walk thru transom. The water capacity is good for what you can get in a boat this size.
The vee berth is ok for guests for a weekend, but is too small for a week. Fine for kids or smaller couples. The rear transverse berth is plenty long and has two opening ports and two hull portholes. The OEM lighting is dim for reading.
The sail sizes are still small enough to handle solo and the boat will be as easy to park as your beamy Cat 30. The boat will sail in light winds too, it was built for the Florida market with it's 4.5 ft draft.
If I was extended cruising I would go for the '92 37.5 model, the cockpit seaworthiness and the difference in the rear cabin space would be worth it. The longer stair in the companionway may be not what you want, the 35.5 has a short rise that one can easily enter and exit.
The things to watch out for are deck delam near the below deck furler holes, ports and stanchion bases, old OEM aluminum tankage, front hatch seal and skylight crazing. The original engine is the Yanmar 3gm30 and could be repowered by now. An engine survey before purchase, considering the miles you plan to travel, would be sage advice.
