Our Hunter has a Foss Foam Rudder installed. The top of the rudder post sits underneath an open cockpit grate on this particular model. When cleaning out the collected rubbish in this well, I always notice that there is some pieces of what appears to be foam loose in the top of the rudder post. What is the likelyhood that water is getting down the rudder post and into the rudder. Can I assume that the rudder post is well sealed at the top end? If not, what would be your recommendation to "seal off" the open end? I have tried to locate a good quality white antifouling paint for the rudder.....any suggestions....I always seem to end up with a grey. What is the safest method for removing the old antifouling paint? Thanks Merrill Ambition

Merrill, Thanks for your question. Your rudder shaft is filled with foam. Initially we began foaming rudder shafts to keep water from freezing and busting through the side of the rudder. While foaming the shaft insures this does not occur water may leach down between the foam and the steal. You may want to mix up a small amount of epoxy resin and pour it down the shaft to help seal it. I will make some calls about the white bottom paint and get back to you. Sincerely, Al Walker Foss Foam
