Great boat well build check engine and sails. Most valuable part. Check sails for bagging get behind sail and look thru at sun. How many holes? Does engine start right up when cold. Any oil leaks. Check all lines for rot where standing rigging for any rust. All maintenance items that are expensive if not kept up

Catalina 30's are very popular sailboats. A 1992 model hopefully engineered-out issues with the original models built from 1972. An out of the water survey should reveal any issues. You might find these threads on the Catalina 30 helpful:

They made 6,200+ of these boats, there is an association website (www.catalina30.com) (one of the few that's not a .org) and a Yahoo/or/Google group. You will find them if you, uhm, Google Catalina 30 or Catalina 30 Association.

92 was a transition year -- Is it a mk-II or mk-III?
Wing or full keel? Tall rig or Standard Rig? Salt or fresh? Raced or cruised?

One benefit is that the wooden support for the compression post was eliminated before '92.
Which engine does she have?

Strongly suggest that you cross-post your questions to the "official Catalina 30 Association forum." There are 1600 members over there to answer your questions; some that I know have a 92.

We have had a 1992 for 10 years. Some of the things that we have issues with are the the sealant around all of the chain plates. In the head the counter needs to be caulked and around to floor. Our boat has some rot from water leaching in these areas. There is possible water ingress at the mast step. Larger than 4 awg battery cables help with starting. I couldn't start our boat on only one battery when we bought the boat. Probably the same things to look at for any boat A couple of years ago I replaced the 2 blade prop with a 3 blade Gori which made sailing in light air much more fun.
