Curious if anyone knows a good resource for companion way door plans for our newly purchased 1992 Catalina 30? My father in law is an amazing wood craftsman but lives on the other side of the country, so the plans would need to be very accurate as I would not have the ability to do a dry fit.

Love your question. I hit's a memory cell a I went though the same. I ended up Taking thin Luan 3 ply plywood, used all over for underlayment. Dirt cheap at Home Depot Lowes etc. and ripped it into about 2" strips (battens)
I then used a hot glue gun to glue the steps to each other as a frame sitting in the hatchway basically creating the exact shape. Of course you can cross check with the hatchboards to make sure they are pretty close to the same. I then cross glued a couple cross pieces just to stiffen it up.
I used a couple pieces to measure the bevel angle.
A new black Sharpie pen was used to outline and label each part. I could keep mine in one big frame and carry home but cross country would be harder to ship.
I do know people doing the same and then backing down to re-constuct elsewhere. Not as hard as it should with plenty of sharpie lines.
Anyway this my sound just too confusing. You just making a lightweight duplicate of the hatch opening.....
