I have a 1991 Hunter 28 & when it rains or I wash the hoat, water leaks down below. It is leaking from where the rudder shaft goes through. Is there a seal there or what is a fix?

Just a suggestion. Our first boat was an H28 many years ago but no leaks. There should be a cap over the rudder post that when removed becomes a place for the emergency tiller arm to connect to the post in the event the steering system fails. That cap should have some sort of seal to prevent water from seeping through. Take a look see and let us know what you find and whether that solved the leak.
Thanks for the reply. That is not the issue. There are openings where you see the cables & quadrant pulley on top of the rudder. When I run water down in there, it literally pours down below & runs into the compartments under the floor of the aft cabin. I put a floor mat on top behind the pedistal, it does reduce the water. I have recently wedged in some westherstripping between the cover & the transom floor.
