Spent a few days on our boat after a terribly wet period and found an unwelcome problem- water leak! It is in the bottom of the cupboard that is just behind the head in our foward cabin- see picture. I suspect that this leak could possibly be coming in at the hull /deck joint- under the toe rail, but wondered if anyone had had this problem and found the cause??

Hmm, what was the temperature out side when you stayed on for those few days, I wonder if it was just condensation settling at the bottom of that locker and it was wicking up the wood .

You say it was was a rainy few days, you may have had the boat closed up tight .

Just a thought

Regards

no- this is very definitley rain water- boat has been dry through some very hot summer weather, but as soon as we had torrential rain back came my water leak! When you look at the location of the water it is a strong indication that water is running down the inside of the hull as it is at this point that the cupboard is hard against the hull, thus showing through the teak panel.

I think I have the same leak...........I will try running the hose this year along the rub rail to find the leak........I am not sure how the rub rail comes off

so I am interested in your results....;)

Do you know where your water tank vents are? On my 410 they are in the stanchions and Hunter did a crappy job of connecting the vent hose to the base of the stanchion. Both of mine came apart and water leaked in the boat in the cabinets.

2002 420 passage - same problem but three leaks all from the hull deck joint.

I removed the toe rail by removing the 50 screws holding it on. That immediately revealed the problem of very poor installation. The screws were too long and they had not been tapped and drilled, just power drilled at the wrong angle so had split the hull and deck lips. Because the screws were too long the ones at an angle had then made a hole in the hull. It took me three weeks to clean up this mess!

It is the hull deck joint. On my 49 this was a big problem, and ruined the wood in the fwd cabin.
Hunter sent a factory pro to my boat to repair the damage. Excellent service.
There are no shortcuts to repair this.
Toe rail must come off.
Keep track of which screws went where. As you remove them, duct tape them to the hull right where they came out.
You will find screws that are too long, too short, bent, etc.
You must clean up each hole, dig out bad sealant, inject new, and re-attach with brand new screws . Make sure the screws are not too long.
You don't want them going through the back of the hull deck joint.

Hope this helos

Thanks to a heads up from Terry Cox, i have now fixed my issue. I had to reseal the hatch in the forward cabin. Was going to completwely remove hatch and start from scratch but after removing all screws, the original factory bond was amazingly tight. So decided to use silicon in each screw hole and go carefully around the hatch to hull seal area with a thin bead of silicon. Just had a night of torrential rain and that cupboard is DRY!!!!!.
