I am looking at a 91 Catalina 30 MKII and the seller claims the engine is a Universal M-18. Was the M-18 available then? I thought the only engine available for that model and year was a M-25.
I vaguely recall that the M-18 was made up through 1986 or so. Unless repowered with a used M-18, I doubt that's what it is. FYI the M25 is a three banger & the M-18 is a two. You might ask how many cylinders it has & you'll have your answer...
I have the 1988 Cat 30 model and the M-25 was an option for that year. I thought the M-18 dropped out the following year due to the increased performance of the M-25. The M-18 has two cylinders as previously mentioned. That will at least let you know its not the M-25 with three cylinders.Bov
