We bought a 1990 35.5 about a year ago and we have entered a distance race here in Toronto and on the safety requirement list we need a manual bilge pump. I was wondering if an one out there has installed one in their 35.5. I really don't want to start drilling holes everywhere
Any info would be great.
Thanks Floyd

Do they state what type of manual bilge pump they require?

Would installing a Y-valve with a hose to a strainer in the bilge (or some other low area to avoid drilling holes) along with the holding tank pump qualify?
Just for the purpose of the race, unless their specifications had more requirements, it wouldn't have to "be sanitary." Heck, neck the inch-and-a-half hose down to 1" and just put the end under the engine pan.

Wth regard to the structural grid system, one doesn't want to willy-nilly drill holes through it because there shouldn't be any holes in the high-stress areas. Several years go I had looked at a really nice boat but the owner or installer had drilled fairly large holes through the grid for his forced air heater ducts so that was a deal breaker. If it must be done I'd consult with the manufacturer, or if not available, a structural engineer (and get the results in writing if possible, but probably not possible).

My '93 35.5 came with a factory installed manual bilge pump. It's located in the port aft cockpit locker and is accessed for use by removing the helm removable seat. The lever to operate the pump faces into the space under that seat facing the cockpit shower located on the opposite side.

Hi Alan
I am going to install one there as well. It seemed like the only place. The other problem though is running the hose to the bilge.
Thanks Floyd

installed in my cockpit locker. Open the seat and pump to your hearts content. They work very well.

Just hook a hose to the in port and run the hose into the bilge. It has great lift. Put the hose on the out port of the pump and run it over board. (Mine goes through a permanent thru hull in the transom.)

The Shop on SBO has them for sale. https://shop.sailboatowners.com/prod.php?8587
