I removed my leaking waste tank yesterday. Cut a hole in aft compartment to access and remove. Not too bad a job. On the way in I noticed that the fuel tank hoses need replacing just cracking with age. For general knowledge this is the size of the tank: 21” X 14” X 9” = approximately 11 gallons. I am debating whether to go back with a portable system or replace the tank. I know the portable tanks are less of a problem to deal with. With a portable toilet I don’t have to worry about a pump out station or lugging my transport tank down to the club to empty the tank myself. And then if I buy a portable toilet what is the best one to buy. I noticed some have capability to attach to a permanent tank on board, any thoughts on this any recommendations? Jim

A Question of Cutting

Jim, Glad you didn't run into trouble. When you say you cut in through the rear compartment, I assume you mean the wall in the rear berth. If this is correct, where exactly did you cut and what did you find under the plywood wall? And what was on the other side? And was there any risk of cutting something important? I would like to get in there to do a couple things, but those access hatches are tooooo small for me. I think I could get down, but not sure I could get out again. I thought of cutting through the wall but was afraid of the damage caused by Murphy's Law. Thanks Ward

Behind the Bulkhead

Ward I will send you an email with pictures of the hole in the rear compartment bulkhead and inside the aft compartment next time I go down to the boat. I did not have any problems. Where I cut through there was nothing behind the bulkhead. I talked with Hunter Mfg about how to remove the tanks they recommended cutting the bulkhead. I asked about structural integrity and Mike said no problem it would not affect the boats structural integrity. Jim
