In my research before buying this boat a few months ago, I was told on the forum that the packing gland area has no drain to the bilge as regulations required at that time. However, due to excessive blisters, I have had to strip off the gelcoat and chopstrand mat to remove all of the blisters (avg 43 per sq foot all over the boat--that is another subject I will address some other time.) During this process I have investigated the drain problem. Then I called Hunter and talked to a rep. There are drain holes in the packing gland area, just before the break into the engine compartment, there are 2 holes about the size of a pencil drilled right and left side. (there are none in the engine compartment because of regulations). Mine were stopped up so tight they would not drain to the bilge, (they looked like some type of a sealer that matched the gelcoat had been put in them.) In fact, there are drain holes in each locker that drain into the bilge. There are drain holes under the cabin sole also. My trusty shop vac cleaned them out. According to Hunter, the outside hull acts like a bowl and any water that drains from the lockers or PK gland areas go between the hulls and drain forward under the engine compartment/cabin sole into the bilge. With this in mind I looked forward of the bilge area only to find that the hole comming from the front section of the boat to the bilge was pluged by wireing for the mast. The Hunter rep recommended that I carefully drill new holes. Also just aft of the bilge, under the floor, there was a pocket that trapped about 1.5 qts of water and it would not drain into the bilge due to the resin build up around the last 2 keel bolts,(this was done so we could get to the last 2 keel bolts to tighten them, if necessary, because the keel was to narrow at the bottom). I suggested that the pocket should be filled so water would not be trapped there, and the Hunter rep agreed (and oversight by hunter.) I removed the teak flooring and drilled 2 holes (close together, 7/8" holes) over the area and filled the area with Iso Poly resin and microballoon fillers, then sealed the holes i drilled. The previous owner and broker did not know about the drain holes or how this model drains. I recommended that Hunter document these things in the owners manuel. With that said, clean out those holes and you won't have to worry about water spilling over into the engine room and out on to the floor before it reaches the bilge. This brings up a thought for Peggy (Island Girl)--got any recommendations on what to pour into the holes to kill mildew trapped between the hulls, maybe a fogger of some type to spray back under and through the holes? If you look real good, useing mirrors and lights you will find (MILDEW HEAVEN) under there between the hulls. Thinking about putting some type of fan or vent for air flow to help the problem any thoughts? Jim
