About to get involved in 1st Maintenance on my 1989 M18. 1st question concerns the oil used. I see DELO HD SAE 15w 40 recommended in a few places. The oil i'm seeing available is DELO 400 LE 15W40 with ISOSYN technology. Is this the proper replacement oil?

You can use any "C" rated (compression ignition, or diesel) oil. 15W40 is a good choice for varying temperatures. Rotella, Delo 400, or most any premium brand are good. I'd avoid the cheap "house brand" from the gas station.

Sae 30HD. Mfg spec. You don't need or want multi viscosity.
Rotella, Delo, etc as other said.
I have the M18. Fantastic in many ways. Have been maintaining it for 5 years, would be happy to help with other questions if there are any specific to this motor. Although, it's similar to other motors re maintenance.

Oh, if people would only get the owners manuals for ALL equipment on the boat.

Of course I have ALL the manuals for the boat...they are 26 years old. I think you would agree with me that oils and lubricants have changed some during that time. I don't think my question was out of line, but I think your response was.

Many of the oils and formulations did not even exist back then. I use Castrol or Rotella T 15w40.

Call Universal/Westerbeke. They will tell you today to use only HD diesel rated oil.
I've put a link below to a current engine owners manual.
If you sail in the winter, then a multi viscosity oil will be useful, and recommended. The problem is that they break down over time under heavy load. Pushing a 6,000 lb 27 footer at 3/4+ throttle is a heavy load for a 570cc motor. If you change the oil often, then no issue. However, 30w does not have the polymer additives to break down at all.

No need to get testy. If you are a frequent reader of these forums, you'd see that people are frequently asked to post pictures or information that they should have posted with the OP. Also, some OP will say they do or don't have the manual, and that just calls for one of the nice folks to offer to send a copy of theirs. Then there are those who have "searched but could find nothing" on make xxx, model yyy, but I take the make/model and google and there can be loads of responses then go back to the OP and suggest he google- which is probably what he should have/could have done in the first place. And lastly, there is considerable wrong information offered by respondants, and the poor OP does not know right from wrong, which is why he/she posted in the first place. If people would post their source of information, that would be a big help, rather to just say "I heard" or "a dock neighbor said". It's just a matter of helping the readers solve your problems if you or ANYONE- offers up the information in the first place. My 2 cents.
