Hi all
I'm looking at a 1989 Hunter 30 with a possible Stanchion leak. Here is a picture of the stanchion base on a similar boat.

My question: how does one remove it to re-bed it?
I'd hate to think of removing the entire toe-rail.

Thanks in advance from you Hunter folks.

I have 37.5 legend of the same vintage. I had leaks everywhere. I tightened all the nuts on the underside of the toerail. They had all loosened a good three or four turns, including the stanchion bases. I was shocked! This happens because of the heating and cooling which results in expansion and contraction that will back out the nuts. Take a socket and look under the toerail and you will see the nuts. Just tighten them. I can see the algae around the bolt head in your photo indicating the pooling of the water around the carriage bolts. Tightening those nuts will help very much. I have read before that boats of this vintage used butyl tape for the toe rail, and the end user won't be able to duplicate it. The seal can be renewed with some tightening.

As a side note, the nuts and bolts holding in the ports suffer the same affliction. Take off the molding, and tighten them up.

Thanks for the reply. It helps a lot.
The photo isn't actually the boat I'm looking at, but belongs to a friend. It's the same model as the one that's for sale.
