Anyone have any idea where we might find the lower coaming box teak piece for a Cat30, 1988? The picture attached is NOT MY BOAT, but it shows the piece we need. (in my web search this boat showed the coaming box in same model)

Catalina Direct carries the upper pieces in pairs, but no mention at all about the lower piece that hold things in the box. We will make them ourselves if we need to but would love to find them ready cut and we can finish them.

Thanks for any ideas! :)

I got a coaming trim for my 27. It was made exactly like oem. If they don't have it they can make it.

I've had to replace a couple of trim pieces...I just went to a local cabinet/woodworker shop and bought a piece of teak....then worked it to shape. In one case, they didn't have the size I needed for an interior piece, so I went with mahogany instead....I love working with mahogany.

Options galore

And if that doesn't work, you can always use starboard. I just bought a piece to make a new stern perch seat replacement for one that a friend had made for me that disintegrated (it was made of vinyl). Pretty inexpensive if you buy scraps. The white would look just fine there.

Gee, then you could tell the difference between port and starboard!!! (I just couldn't resist, because your picture was, well, of the starboard coaming box!)

thanks everyone for you thoughts. We might try to repair the broken one, if that does not look really good when done, we will decide if we stick to wood or go with the starboard (both sides by the way!!) as you suggest Stu. (ha, ha, very funny!!..... and you did read that was not our boat.....that one's cockpit looked pretty bad for a 88 I think. Did not like the look of unvarnished teak in the cockpit at all!) Joe, I did notice there are some inside angles and cuts that could make a simple job lots more complicated... maybe we will try really hard to repair what we have :)!!

If by chance I do find these additional pieces I will post it here. I don't understand how Catalina Direct could carry just the upper part and not the bottom!

You may have better luck by contacting the factory's parts department. CatalinaDirect is not owned by Catalina Yachts, to my knowledge. Things like coaming boxes were installed on many different boat models and are not particularly unique to a specific one. The factory will maintain a much larger inventory of related parts.... in fact that is where CD gets a lot of their stuff.... so I'd go to the source first ( i.e. go direct to catalina yachts, heh, heh)

Searching for Catalina parts

Thanks Joe!! I called the 818 number and they referred me to a Florida location. They are checking into it all and will let me know if they have, can make or what my options are. They are so great to work with!! Thank you for the reminder that Catalina Direct is not actually Catalina Yachts. .....I keep forgetting that!

The Florida number they sent me to is: 727 544-6681.
I will report my progress, I am sure this will be helpful to someone else, no matter what the part.

caguy, and Thank YOU! After chatting and exchanging emails with Warren at Catalina Yachts in Florida, he writes:

H & L did much or most of the int & exterior teak/woodwork for the Calif boats and 30's, give them a call at 323-636-1718
Ron and the crew there are fairly adept at everything Catalina......

It looks like H & L is a great source for woodwork for all of us Catalina owners...

Yes, they are. Get on their mailing list - they still do things the old fashioned way, by snail mail. Great catalog and wood stuff info.

And yes, I knew it wasn't your boat, but I just couldn't resist. :)

If you're coming from Dana Pt. its well worth the drive to come in and see their show room and huge wood working shop.

Joe Diver: completely agree!! and they are consistently such nice and helpful folks.
CaGuy: you are right, and I am working in the Thousand Oaks area over the next few months so I will plan to stop on my way back one day. Thanks for the tips.

I will post what the fix was once we get to that point and Stu, you are such a card :)

Did you find a solution? I have a C-30 also a 1988. My lower boards are also cracked and ready for repair or replacement! I guess after 23 years in the sun they have done ok!

StellaMaris, I think we have just decided to scrape out the old glue, clean everything up and reglue, replace the wooden plugs, reinforce back if needed and then refinish both if they don't match well. Of course at this very moment, it sits on my counter, staring at me to do something!!! We sometimes take a long time thinking about what we're gonna do.......... and then we go sailing ;) and think about it some more .
