There are rectangular recessed fluorescent lights in the cabin. They appear to be from Hella. I have one which is not functional. Any ideas for replacements or parts? I also intend to replace the current tubes with LEDs. Are there drop in replacements for these tubes? Thanks

Found Tube LEDs that might work!

Hi,

I have a Beneteau 390 and it's proven to be a great boat, but I wanted to upgrade the interior lighting to LED and found this site "marinebeam". I just ordered the 9" LED tube to replace one of the original Fluorescent tubes to see how well it works. Will soon know if this works as a good replacement tube! :D

LEDs tube lights

Installed Marinebeam LED tube light to replace outdated tube. Works very well and extremely bright!

A little modification is needed..such as the removal of the ballast. Other than that no problem!

:D

Very nice. I think I have a fixture with a bad ballast anyway so I think I will try this as well. I don' t want to change the appearance of the original Hella recessed fixture so this should be a good solution. Thanks

Hi Guys,

It's Jeff, the Marinebeam prorietor (and 3x Beneteau owner). The answer is that the tubes are indeed brighter than the originals. This due to the LEDs employed, and the fact that they are directional rather than isotropic, so all the light goes directly out the fixture with minimal losses.

Of course, they will also outlast the original tubes and ballasts, and draw a pittance of the original tube and ballast's power requirements. While the technology is still relatively expensive compare to a fluorescent tube, they cost less than most replacement ballasts.

Hey Jeff, Do I need the 9 inch tubes for my 432? The fixtures are recessed and I live a long way from the boat. I was hoping to order today, but if you are not sure, I will wait until next week after I check the fixtures out. One of them is already dead and I assume its the ballast, so 12V won't be a problem there. I also will order the bulbs for the nav lights, but again am not sure of the correct size yet. Thanks
