I am considering purchasing a 1987 Irwin 38 MKII and am currently undergoing a survey. The surveyor could not access the chainplate attach points to inspect them as there was paneling between the rear of the storage cabinet and the inside of the hull (no inspection panels). Where he could gain access to the interior of the hull about 3 feet below the deck, he could not see the chainplates. I have a couple of questions for the forum:
1. Does this boat have a history of chainplate issues that would make a visual inspection of the chainplate attachment points absolutely necessary?
2. How are the chain plates attached to the hull on this model and do they extend horizontally rather than vertically?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for your replies.
