closed on the 31 today and looking forward to some week end crusinig. any tips on the 31 shoal draft apreciated. in the 87's was there an issue with water trapped between deck and liner ?

The chain plates were fine and all the eltronics work great. The refridgeration is like nothing ive ever seen. there is no cold plate like the norcolds or alder barber units bvut more like a fan molded into the box itself.

any tips apreciated

Chuck congrats. Yes 84 - 87 has a water pocket. I enlarged the weep hole in the bilge. Put some highly clorinated water in the bow under the holding tank it will run into the pocket and kill the bugs that cause odor. I put white vinegar in after it is rinsed good.

Water trapped between the hull and liner, not the deck & liner, correct?

Keith is correct. I would use hot water and bleach under the Vberth, aft the engine bilge and the refrigerator. All of these areas drain into the bilge (sooner or later).

You only need to do this if you are getting odors, otherwise it is really not an issue.

Great boat! We had a 1985 model that we purchased new and had it until 2007. The only problem we ever had was the compression post issue.

Congrats, Captn' Creel ! She looks fine !
Besides Steve's mention of the compression post, there is the chainplate tie rod/anchor problem that has been discussed on the site a good bit..

My 87' H28.5 had a 2-speed DC fan mounted in the ice box and it would draw air from under the port settee. It did not cool like a fridge/cold plate but would merely circulate the cold air from the ice and make the icebox more effective

thanks guys. The ice box has something that uses C02 tyoe system according to the paperwork. HAVE ordered an owners manula for it and a recharge kit just incase.

Took her out yesterday for a shakedown sail. Winds were steady 18-20 kts and i only used teh 130 head sail but boat handled teh seas very well. Tried Motor sailing and picked up 1/2 a kt boat speed. seems like the sweet spot for the 2gm is about 2200 rpm when motor sailing.

average GPS speed was around 7 kts on a reach with 2 ft seas.

Think she is going to be a sweet boat for our coastal waters.

will try and post pics of the ice box unit when i get back off work again. right now im still going to be off horn island for a while.

fair winds.

Chuck: The 2GM engine should be run at about 70-80% of max rpm (3600). Check out the Yanmar Help.com website for operation and care of the engine. If they are properly cared for they are rated at 10,000 -12,000 hrs.

They are really sweet boats. Everytime I go sailing on my old H'31 I realize how nice she was.

Thanks,
maybe she is over propped because i only get about 3000 wot and black smokes at wot.

i think it has a 10x14 3 blade wheel.

can only run her abt 30 minutes at that speed untill she over heats.
I know it hasnt left the slip in a year so i figured she needed to be blown out. lol
