1987 Hunter 23': which grease gun for trailer?

Hello,

I have original wheels on my 1987 Hunter 23' trailer. I got great recommendations earlier today on what grease to use.

But, this boat is new to me and I am not near my boat and am going to pick it up this weekend. So, I want to take the correct grease gun with me. Can anyone tell me what is the correct type of grease gun for the original trailer. Does anyone remember that far back or still have one and can look on theirs?

This Hunter 23 will be in saltwater.

Thanks,

Mark

They are all fairly standard. If you go with the bearing buddies, you just need to make sure the tip of the gun fits over this nipple.

I'd recommend that at some point you remove the wheels and inspect the bearings. My '91 H23 had some major corrosion on the bearings and races, had to replace all. I also had to totally redo the brakes, including new surge coupler. This boat had never been in salt water.

I am doing similar tomorrow (driving 12 hours round trip to pick up a boat) I have a grease gun with Zirk fittings I bought at Auto Zone @ $35 the fitting on the most hubs is Zirk.

You can pull the bearing buddy off by lightly tapping on the 9-3 o’clock positions. Wipe out old grease with paper towels and refill with new grease. After driving a couple miles and pull over make sure bearing buddy is only slightly warm with back of your hand. If it’s hot the bearing is shot and I wouldn’t drive it far or fast.

@isaksp00 is correct and follow his advice. Do insure the brakes are working. The boat sits high up on the trailer thus the center of gravity is higher. Without brakes you could loose the boat and get hurt. Former top dealer for this boat
