From my reading on the Catalina 30, 1987 was the last year of the wooden block encapsulated in FG under the compression post.
One sign of a rotten block is misalignment of the head door.
Below is a pic of the head door of a 87 I looked at yesterday. The top of the door is on an angle to the cabin top. When swung open fully the top of the door clears the cabin top evenly by about 1/8 of an inch.
Does this appear normal? I saw no evidence of sagging under mast step.
Three of the four fixed ports in the cabin have vertical cracks close to the middle of the window.
I believe replacement will be easy but wondered if these cracks are normal. Pic attached.
