Is the hull on a 1987, 45FT Legend strong enough for off shore use. This assumes that the sailing plan avoids know heavy weather seasons/areas.

Yes

If it wasn't, I wouldn't be writing this right now. Be sure to check the backstay chainplates from the inside before departing - I had problems with mine, and fixed them at the dock rather than out at sea..also make sure all of the fixed ports have been screwed in and not just bedded. Make sure the factory mod to prevent deck flexing has already been done - if it has, there should be a large diameter stainless steel member lying athwartships bisecting the opening hatch in the main salon. Otherwise, unless you hit something like a container or another boat, things should go fine. You should always avoid heavy weather/seasons in any boat, but if you run into this, the boat should take it. Happy sailing, MC

I have not taken our 1986 L45 off shore but would like to correspond with you about other aspects of the boat. I do know of others that have taken their L45's off shore successfully. Greg Cramer Cramer@snip.net
