I am searching for a main sail travel car for my 1986 Hunter 34. The original which broke is made by Rutgerson who no longer makes this car or replacement parts for it. I have tried to replace it with a Schaeffer but it is too wide and won't clear the dodger on my boat. The car runs on a 32mm track.Any help would be appreciated.

I just replaced the whole set up with a Harken traveler. So much better. Not easy getting the old track off, though.
I did not replace the track, just had to relocate the dodger (It was time anyway) so the new Schaefer car would fit.
Thanks. I actually did reply to this thread when it was in progress, but did not receive a reply as to whether I need to drill ne bolt patter for the Harken track.

I finally solved my traveler replacement problem by relocating the dodger. Now the Harken car part #T3203B.
It was time for a new dodger anyway and the last thing I wanted to do is to replace or move the track, a big job. Good luck with your project.

Aoversier; after rereading all the posts carefully, are you saying that the Harken car T3203B will fit the old 32mm track? It seems you used a Schaeffer car on the old track. Please let me know as soon as you can as I already placed the order for Harken parts. Thanks again. Ilan
Sorry about the confusion. My previous post of using a Schaeffer was wrong. Yes the car I purchased Harken part # T3203B is the correct part. One hint, there is a Harken part #T3203B HL which will work but is about $100 more than the T3203B and I consider it to be "overkill" on my 34ft Hunter. The T3203B has a breaking load of 7000lbs and is advertised by Harken to be suitable for boats up to 50ft. Hope this helps.
Yes the Harken will fit the old 32mm track and the newer 32mm track. The instructions are with the traveler for either the old or newer 32mm track.

I finally received the Harken traveler car and ends and it does not fit the 32mm track on my Hunter 34 (the original Rutgerson track, so I wanted to clarify the confusion in the above posts. It will fit the old Harken 32 track with a converter and of course the new Harken track, but not the "old" (Rutgerson) track
I have the rutgerson too (1986 Hunter 34) - my car has some damaged wheels on one side. We don't yet have a dodger... is the best plan to replace the whole thing (car and track)? Sounds expensive...
