I'm buying a 1986 Hunter 27' ....In all your spec listings, comments, categories, etc. I see a gap from 1985 thru 1988. What's the deal? Is there a production run for those years? For all I've seen, it is the same as other 1983, 1984's I've found. Is there such a thing as a 1986 27'? was it different from the earlier models? Respond soon if you know....I'm making the deal this week. Thanks

Hi, Chances are you are buying a 1986 Hunter 26.5. A good boat and often referred to as a 27, but really a 26.5. Hunter started making the 27 in 1989 and used the same hull as the 26.5, just a different cabin top and layout. Does it look like the photos of the 26.5 on this site? I have a 1993 Hunter 27 and just love the boat. Very fast and fun to sail. Good luck with your purchase, Dan

Mark: I am just guessing here but we just had a discussion on this subject regarding the H'37C. They to are not listed as a 1986 model but there are some. When you look at the pictures and layouts does this boat resemble the earlier Cherubini H'27? The early boats were basically black and white. The later years had black toe rails but started using the blue strips like on the mid 80's Hunters (non-Cherubini). What I think may have happened is that these were no longer "Production" boats. Hunter had the molds and tooling and they just kept making them on special order until the new replacments became part of the production line. Do you have the Hull ID# yet?

It's possible the confusion has to do with when the boat was made. If the hull was made between August and December, the year of the boat takes on the following calendar year. So, for example, if the boat hull was made in August, Sept., Oct. Nov., or December of 1985 it will be a 1986 year boat for registration purposes. 1986?? 27' mystery resolved
As it turns out the sailboat was advertised incorrectly (probably a simple error) then was presented by the broker as the same. The owner tracked down the HIN and it held the key '84' (1984) in the HIN. So it's a little older than I thought, but it's still a nice boat for the money so we'll probably go thru with the deal. Thanks to John, Steve, Dan, and Jack for their rapid response. It really helped me get things sorted thru in a hurry so we can get busy buying, moving the boat and getting on the water. It's good to have wisdom and experience nearby to refer to when wending thru unknown waters. Happy 'sails' to you

Built in 1980, Offered as 1981 Model
When my boat was being surveyed my capable mate discovered that "LOTUS" was built in April of 1980, but offered as a 1981 model. Hope this helps.
