Don't think so here at HOW.

but there's been lots of discussion in the past. There was a detailed article in one of the sailing mags a few years ago. General source seems to be Mars Metal. Seach archives here on that name and you'll get some hits.

why lead?

Mark: Why do you want lead? You can always cut off part of your keel and have Mars Metals make an add on unit for it. A new keel is probably going to cost about 50% of the boats value. Your other alternative is to try to swap keels with someone that has a 31.

H31 Shoal Draft Keel is Iron not Lead

Hi. Endless Summer is h31 hull number 58 (1984) and she has a shoal draft keel. Her keel is iron, not lead. The h31 "brochure draft" is 4' but ours meashure 4' 9". That's from the bottom of the keel to the "scum" line. Our friend Joe owned h31 hull #1 (shola draft) and he also measured the draft at 4' 9". There may be aftermarket keels available that can reduce yur draft, if that is your goal. I have never looked into sources of aftermarket keels. It would be interesting to know what is vailable. My guess is BIG BUCKS! If I were you, I'd call Hunter and ask this question. Later. Roger Mummah
