Can anyone tell me if the 1985 Hunter 25.5 came with a bilge pump and if so where was it installed. If not where would be the best place to install one?

I do not know if the Hunter 25.5 came with a bilge pump. But the 25.5 does have a great sump to install one in ... right at the top of the keel. The only issue is where to route the discharge. The previous owner of my 25.5 routed it to a thru-hull on the port side ... problem is he did not install the thru-hull high enough. Thus, when the boat heels over on a starboard tack water can siphon into the bilge. This is the only time I ever have water in the bilge.

In my opinion there are only two good solutions:

1. Run the discharge out the transom ... which means a rather long discharge line.
2. Install a high loop with vacuum breaker ... which is also problematic because of the placement of the bench seat to starboard and the table to port.

I sail on a lake ... so I live with the siphon problem.

Here’s a link to the photos of my bilge pump installation.

On my '84 25.5 the bilge hose runs from lowest point of the bilge (under the smaller of the two bilge board covers) through the floor bulkhead into the v berth making a right turn up under the sink and out through a through hull. I have looped the hose as well as put in a check valve and avoid the water entering when healing heavy to starboard. I hope this picture helps.

as always good advice from these fellows which is to be appreciated. Just make sure that the discharge thru hull is high enough with healing so no water comes back but the one way valve to prevent water from coming in is also a good idea. The easiest and shortest route for the discharge is the best route to go. Remember not all water will be discharged out as some will wash back down and in addition, keep a sponge to mop up everytime you leave any water left standing in the bilge when going home.
