1985 Edge Trim For Cabin Sole Pieces

Hi all.

My winter project, and now spring, has been the stripping and refinishing of my cabin sole teakwood. One small stickler I've encountered is replacing the off-center T-shape trim that runs the edge of the sole pieces. I'm not exactly sure of it's function...but it was present so assuming I should replace. Can't find anything like it at local hardware stores, etc. See photos. Should I just bag it or can this trim piece be found? It looks to be original from boat construction some 30 years back....

Thanks for any and all guidance.

A little difficult to see in two dimensions but they look like the 3/4? X 3/8" edging that we have on all of our plywood sole plates. They are glued on to the edge of the pieces to dress it up and avoid whangs and delamination of the plywood.
They can be made by ripping a 3/4" thick piece of teak.

Thank you Ralph. I can try to upload a more 3-d photo. The trim actually only hugs the sides of the sole pieces, i.e. I wouldn't see them looking down at the cabin floor. So a little different than what you uploaded - great looking floor by the way. That said, I'm always open to new approaches/fixes. And...what exactly does "ripping" entail? Tx. Tom O'Day 28.

If you don't have access to a table saw, an easier option would be to apply iron on edge banding. It can be stained and finished. Also it is thin enough you don't have to trim down your floor boards. Available at most hardware stores.
(Hey Ralph, great varnish work!)

You can try the aluminum or vinyl edging from Plasteak or Defender Marine that is made for Lonseal synthetic teak flooring. It comes in solid colors. It will not match your beautiful teak floor but it would finish the edge and still look nice.

Ripping is cutting wood parallel to the grain. Done best with a table saw.

If you want to go this route, you would use a finished 1 X 4 teak board which really measures 3/4" X 3-1/2". Cut it parallel with the grain (rip) to produce 3/4" thick strips. As njlarry mentions, you would have to trim the sole plates to allow for the thickness of the strips.

Wow, great looking floor. I bet I could put my make up on using that floor!
