It's Me again. I pulled off my instrument panel, and the PO hard wired the start button directly to power, bypassing the key switch. I have a broken off key in the switch, so I'm going to replace the switch and try to trace all of the wiring harness wires back to the buss & beyond to see what issues there are there. I took pictures of the back of the panel before taking wires off, but would like a picture (not an electrician's wiring diagram) of which wires go where on the back of the instruments.

You will probably find that the PO made other "improvements". Following what's been done might lead you astray.
You should at least understand the schematic to make sure you're accomplishing your goal. As an alternative, you could buy a new harness and install it, though I'll guess that's a lot more work.
There is an issue with the GM series start circuit that the PO was likely trying to fix. There are many posts here with details.
These are relatively simple machines with electronics to match.
